MGV FIRST TO OFFER MINIATURE DRAM
CARDS FOR
PHILIPS VELO HANDHELD COMPUTER
IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 4, 1997 -- To support the
growing handheld computer market, MGV has introduced a line of miniature DRAM
memory cards for the Philips Velo 1 handheld personal computer. The company is
the first to offer this enhancement for the Velo product family.
The Velo 1 is a Windows CE-based compact computer
which operates a variety of powerful applications. It comes pre-loaded with
the industry’s latest software including Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, Pocket Internet
Explorer, a contact management program, an inbox for faxing and e-mail access
and a database information storage system. The AA-battery-powered system also
features Velo Voice Memo which records up to 16 minutes of dictation with the
standard 2-MB model. The addition of MGV’s new DRAM cards allows users to record
up to 4.5 hours of dictation. The handheld computer features a 19.2-Kbps fax
modem for Internet access, e-mail and direct fax. The Velo 1 also can be configured
for wireless messaging and paging services.
"MGV’s new miniature DRAM cards enhance the
productivity of Velo users," said Steve Recek, director of product development.
"The memory cards expand the Velo’s functionality by allowing consumers to
support more applications with additional memory while on the road. Handheld
computer users can now take advantage of all the features enjoyed by the rest
of the portable computing population."
According to Marc Ganouna, MGV’s president and
chief executive officer, the company is expanding its memory module line to include
products for hand-held computers to meet the increasing user demand for greater
access to applications while away from the office.
"The miniature DRAM card product offering
is part of our long-term strategy to remain on the forefront of technological
development and supply users with memory enhancements to the market’s hottest
new computing products," Ganouna said.
The miniature DRAM card family includes four
3.3-volt models which feature EDO RAM. MGV’s memory upgrade card also is compatible
with future generations of the Velo product line. Manufacturer’s suggested retail
